City Tour Cusco

Itinerary

The “Cusco City Tour” is a half-day, guided tour of regional highlights including the Inca archeological sites of Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Pukapukara and Tambomachay. In the city we’ll visit the Inca Temple of Koricancha and the Cathedral of Santo Domingo.

Our first stop is the Inca ceremonial center of Sacsayhuaman, overlooking the city of Cusco. The site, with its massive stonewalls and structures, is a perfect example of masterful Inca stonemasonry and architecture. Our next stop is the Inca ruin of Qenqo with its subterranean passages and zigzagging channels carved in stone. One of the chambers in Qenqo has a carved stone table where the Incas may have mummified their dead. We follow Qenqo with a short visit to the Inca archaeological site of Pukapukara and Tambomachay, best known for its temple dedicated to the god of Water.

We return to Cusco and visit the most important religious center of the Incas - the Temple of Koricancha. At Koricancha, offerings to the gods and the Inca's ancestors were made each day. Finally, we visit the beautiful Cathedral of Santo Domingo on the main plaza in Cusco. This enormous cathedral, finished in 1654, contains nearly four hundred oil paintings, including many from the Cusco School, which was prominent in the 17th century. Among them is a painting of The Last Supper by Marcos Zapata, showing Jesus and his disciples about to dine on Guinea pig (Guinea pig was the main course at sacred feasts in Inca times).

After our city tour the guide will drop you off at your hotel.
