Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco to Machu Picchu

We depart from Cusco on the early morning train and travel along the Urubamba River in the scenic Sacred Valley. At kilometer 104 of the Inca Trail we reach a trailhead and begin our walk. This part of the Inca Trail winds gently upward for approximately four hours to the Inca ruins of Wiñay Wayna. We will have time to explore the remains of houses, fountains, staircases and agricultural terraces of this once thriving community. After a tasty box lunch, we have a two-hour walk ahead of us through tropical cloud forest until we reach the Sun Gate and get our first views of Machu Picchu! Our walk ends with a bus ride to the town of Aguas Calientes, followed by dinner and lodging in a comfortable hotel.
